BEFORE YOU TRAVEL
Family contacts, Holiday details for relatives
It is always a good idea to let a friend or relative have details of how long you will be away for, the address of the accommodation (if known) or the contact details of our local Sky High Holidays agent in Turkey. Tell them which airline you are flying on and your expected UK arrival time if they are planning on collecting you from the airport.
Home Security
It is sensible to take the following precautions:
• Cancel milk and newspapers and any other known deliveries. • Ask a neighbour to push letters through the letterbox. • Partially draw curtains and blinds, but not fully. • If possible install an automatic timer to switch a light on and off. • Lock all doors and windows
including garage and sheds. • Then leave the keys with a trustworthy neighbour.
Money & travelers cheque's
It is recommended that you take a mix of Sterling cash, traveler's cheque's and a small amount of Turkish Lira, the exchange rate is better in Turkey. If you are taking Travelers cheque's remember to make a list of serial numbers and keep the list separate together with contact telephone numbers for your credit card providers. Scottish notes are not accepted in Turkey.
What to take
Travel light is the most sensible advice. Dress is casual on these holidays; you won't need different cloths for every evening. Good swim wear, effective sun tan lotion, comfortable shoes, sunglasses, a sun hat, a light jacket or sweater and a pair of light trousers for the evening. Don't forget to pack (in hand luggage) such things as essential medicines, contact lens fluid and your driving license if planning to hire a car.
Passports & Visas
It is your responsibility to make sure that you comply with immigration requirements for your holiday and that your passport is valid for the whole of your stay. You are further advised to have at least three months validity on your passport after your date of entry into your destination. If you need to apply for a new passport allow at least eight weeks before you travel. The Post Office provides a guaranteed service for a small charge. It might be a good idea to check www.ukpa.gov.uk
for recent information.
You may need to obtain a visa before traveling to some countries. As visa requirements may change at any time, it is important to double check the visa requirements with the relevant Consulate or Embassy to the country you are planning to visit within 6 weeks of departure or refer to www.fco.gov.uk/knowbeforeyougo
If you are a non British national please check with your embassy or consulate whether you need to apply for any special entry permits well before you travel.
Please check www.sholidays.com for relevant links to your destinations consulate Internet site.
The Foreign and Commonwealth Office issues and frequently updates advice for those traveling outside the UK. The advice includes general warnings and specific information for the benefit of travelers. To access the latest information visit www.fco.co.uk.
TRAVEL INSURANCE
We recommend that you take out holiday insurance at the time of booking your holiday as your insurance policy will then provide insurance cover from the date you made your booking rather than from the date you depart to travel. It is essential that you have holiday insurance in place that provides cover for loss, damage, medical expenses and any cancellations which my occur. If you have taken insurance with us or if you opted to arrange your own, please make sure you take a copy
of your policy with you on holiday as it will include 24 hour emergency assistance numbers should a problem arise during your holiday.
