Bitez
General Description of Bitez
Bitez is centred on a sheltered bay popular for water sports and comprises modern, low-rise tourist accommodation situated along, or set slightly back from, the beach front. It has a sedate, laid-back ambience occasionally enlivened by the arrival of local day-trippers at the small jetty on the E edge of the resort. The original village of Bitez, 1 ml inland, offers little of interest to tourists.
Market/Suitability
Quiet and unsophisticated; for those seeking the simple life and a sporty but relaxed atmosphere.
Location/Contact
Location: On the South West coast of Turkey, on the Aegean Sea. ¾ ml W of Gumbet. 6 mls W of Bodrum town. 36 mls SW of Bodrum airport, 136 mls NW of Dalaman airport, 156 mls S of Izmir airport. Position: In flat terrain on a rugged peninsula, sheltered by hills on either side. Dialling Code: 252
Accommodation
Mainly simple B&Bs and pensions; 1 or 2 self-catering complexes.
Beach
Long but very narrow sliver of sand and shingle. Gently shelving, so suitable for children. A choice of restaurants, cafes and bars line the beach front near the centre of the resort. Water sports available including windsurfing.
Shopping
A selection of tourist shops in the centre as well as about 10 minimarkets scattered around resort. Wider range of shopping opportunities can be found in Gumbet or Bodrum.
Entertainment
Daytime: water sports, such as parasailing and windsurfing; speed-boat rides; cruises aboard gulets (traditional sailing vessels). Nightlife: subdued and provided by a selection of well-located bars and restaurants; livelier Gumbet and Bodrum are a short dolmus or taxi ride away.
Eating Out
Majority of hotels and apartment complexes have public-access restaurants and snack bars. Otherwise, there is a choice of eateries mostly serving international cuisines including Chinese, Indian and Mexican.
Public Transport
Cheap and cheerful dolmus (minibus) services to outlying bays and Bodrum. Taxis are plentiful and reasonably priced.
Local Excursions
Ferries to Kos and Rhodes; coastal cruises to nearby bays; Ephesus; Pamukkale with its limestone formations; villages and bays of the Bodrum peninsula.
